I had not thought of this before this morning and although I am not a smoker myself and in fact I am an ex and somewhat militant anti-smoker, I thought this question posed by John Dunne of the Foster Care Council of Canada afterfostercare@yahoogroups.com was a very good one about a very frightening possibility. I have copied this from the afterfostercare yahoo group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/afterfostercare/) and I believe this is a very relevant topic which we need to monitor. Indeed what is to stop the Children's Aid Society from taking children away from 'smoking' parents given their reasons for enacting the law in the first place? It seems to me that all the ingredients for intervention are right there.You might have noticed that a man who was at a hockey game recently and inadvertently-and completely innocently bought his young son a 'lemonade" (or what he thought was a lemonade-it was one of Mike's "Hard" lemonades) found his son taken from him by CAS within hours. So what new 'options for job justification and new funding will the CAS use to do their dirty deeds? It bears some scrutiny I believe. Nothing is impossible with these CAS thugs and bullies and I believe this might end up being a whole new CAS 'can of worms', Especially as the law spreads to other provinces which is inevitableJSFrom: John Dunn

I wanted to ask if the citizen's of Ontario should be concerned that if they are charged with an Offence of smoking in a vehicle with a person under sixteen years of age within, will the authorities or anyone at any time notify a Children's Aid Society of the Offence therefore putting families at risk of separation due to smoking in their vehicle with a person under sixteen

Hmm..... more thoughts on balance and equality? re: " violent partners create war zone for women" (?) And while the predominant male violence myth continues to be spread and impact directly-and indirectly-on men in family court the reality of a much more 'equal' record of violence becomes more evident to us every day. But only to us unfortunately. Its this evidence and that data provided by many researchers that we should be distributing to the media, the politicians and the general public. Its a critical balance of truth which we have to address and we have to do it somehow. Much more attention needs to be paid to the truth on male-female violence. Remember these stories below are only examples but they were all published in the first week of May.JS
PS I sent some of these to the notoriously vicious radical man-hater Pam Cross of the Ontario Women's Justice Network on Friday and asked her if she might want to reconsider her "violent partners" statement in view of the evidence of female on male violence but of course I received no reply. Another supporter/activist also wrote to Ms Cross but as far as I know also got no response.JS
