Well simply
put the reason I have put these two stories in this post is 'for effect
and example'. Many of you will recognize immediately what I am alluding
to by doing so. Although our Fathers and Men's issues do not extend
officially to the difficult and awful experience of murder itself we all
know how we are 'painted' in terms of the 'male violence' issue and how
it alludes to the sinister aspect of family law issues and how we lose
everything as a result of the lies and deceit and the wholesale
injustice of the system. These men were falsely accused and charged and
convicted. They spent a lot of time in jail and suffered terribly.
Now its
been found they shouldn't have been there in the first place and the
Ontario (Canadian) Government and the Norwegian Governments are
considering compensation. My feeling is that in Canada in every province
there are innocent men filling the jails as a result of unfounded
accusations. Although not as serious as murder the experience of losing
everything as a result of the perversion of justice is a terrible
experience and one which clearly is every bit as awful as these wrongly
convicted men in the two stories. The Jail experience, its deprivations
and the horrors of being "inside" and being innocent and being jailed is
after all not anything one could ever forget. And in Canada and I am
sure other Western/Australasian/European.North and South American countries,
the picture is the same. Any number of stories of falsely accused Men
abound. If Canada for example still had the death penalty we would have
executed at least a half-dozen innocent men in as many years!
My point
therefore is looking at the experience in these cases what will be the
result one day when it is found that a fair percentage of the Men and
the Fathers jailed in every province in Canada (and around the world)
for 'transgressions under family and criminal law should never have been
there and never have been even charged in the first place? What level of
compensation would follow that scandal? And who would be responsible?
Looking at these cases here I would say that the full scale of the
disaster is pretty clear as is the level of scandal. Yet we have to push
to reveal the truth about all of this regardless of how it all might
look on all levels. After all its still a matter of justice and
restitution and these must go hand in hand with retribution.
Just this
morning a fellow activist was relating to me that he had been in
conversation with a lawyer who told him that he had once been a family
law lawyer but gave it up completely because as far as he could see
during his time the courts were doing nothing else but "filling the
jails with innocent men". Well it doesn't get more clear and more honest
than that does it? Someone must pay for these atrocities and someone is
really going to have to go to jail for what they have done. National
enquires must be held and full investigations undertaken. The Innocent
Must get Justice and the Guilty Must be Punished. We must
see to it. No-one else is going to do it for us
